Norma Overlade of Harmons has greatly improved her health and well-being since joining the Apple Program®. Not only has Norma lost weight, but because of her overall health improvements, she’s been able to cut back on medications she was forced to use to keep her health at a stable condition.
Norma attributes her success to her own motivation and desire to improve her health, as well as the assistance of her outgoing and inspiring Apple Health Coach®. Her coach has helped her create goals she could focus on to improve aspects of her health. With the coaches recommendations, Norma decided to focus on getting at least seven glasses of water on a daily basis and incorporating physical activity as often as possible, whether it’s by taking walks around the mall, walking to and from her mother’s house, keeping up her lawns, or simply cleaning her house. She does whatever she can to get her heart rate up. She’s also strived to cut back on her portion sizes and cut out high fat foods like cookies, candies, and French fries. Norma has only eaten fast food once this year! Her biggest temptation is ice cream, and she hasn’t had a single serving all year long! In addition to cutting back on the unhealthy foods, she’s increased her intake of healthy foods like fruits and vegetables. She’s also completely done with adding salt to any of her foods.
Norma is grateful that she chose to participate in this program her company offered. The first year she had the opportunity to take part in the Apple Program she passed it up, but her coworker explained to her that she saved over $500 on her insurance by participating in the program, so she decided to join the program. She’s satisfied with the way the program has inspired her to improve her health and lifestyle, so she can be more physically and mentally alert.
Norma plans on working for another 15 years, but in order to do that she knows she must always focus on having good health. She takes care of her 96 year-old mother and realizes that she needs to be active and strong in order to help her out. “Slowly but surely”, she says she’s been able to meet her goals!
Her advice to others is to not give up; just keep trying with your goals, as it will help your day go better and you will feel better about yourself, because your mind will be more alert. “Some people think they’ve done everything and haven’t noticed results, but they have to keep working on them. There’s always a light at the end of the tunnel!”
